Penang, Malaysia -- The International Buddhist College (IBC), Hatyai, Thailand and its parent organization, Than Hsiang Temple, Penang, Malaysia is happy to announce the first IBC academic conference on Buddhist Studies. The theme of the conference - "Aspects of Buddhist Studies" - is deliberately broad so that the papers presented at this conference will interest a wide spectrum of audiences in the region. Free Admission to public screening on August 11, 2006 at 8pm. Public Screening of "Gate of Sweet Nectar: Feeding Hungry Spirits in an American Zen Community."
This conference is intended as an introduction for the Malaysian public to Buddhist Studies as a modern, academic, field of studies. It will also serve as an opportunity for the IBC to be acquainted with international Buddhist scholars and vice-versa and to plant the seeds for future collaborations and projects.
Due to logistical reasons, organizers have elected to highlight scholars who are mostly trained in the West although their respective national origins are varied. It is the intention of the IBC to host future conferences highlighting the scholarly contributions of scholars trained in Asia and conferences that bring together the two.
This conference will be held at Than Hsiang Temple, Penang, Malaysia. Over twenty world renown Buddhist scholars will be presenting papers in this academic Conference. Interested parties are cordially invited to register for this Conference.
