|  Ven.Hsing Yun
Ven. Hsing Yun, was born in 1927 in Jiangsu Province of mainland China. Tonsured under Ven. Chih Kai at the age of twelve in Dajue Temple, Nanjing, he later received full ordination in Mt. Qixia in 1941 and studied at the Qixia Vinaya School. After arriving in Taiwan in 1949, Ven. Xingyun took charge of a small temple in the rural area and eventually established Foguangshan --"Light of Buddha Mountain", in Kaohsiung County. Subsequently, Foguanshan became one of the most important Buddhist organizations for education, culture and charity works in both Taiwan and overseas, with over a hundred regional chapters around the world. Ven. Hsing Yun is the Vice President of World Buddhist Sangha Council, Honorary President of World Youth Buddhist Association and the Chairman of Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA).
