Xuecheng was born in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Xianyou</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">County</st1:PlaceType> in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Fujian</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Province</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> in 1966. He became a monk Guanghua Monastery in Putian, in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Fujian</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Province</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> in 1982. In 1991, Ven. Xuecheng graduated from the Chinese Buddhist Academy with masterí»s degree.</SPAN></P>

In 1993, he became the vice secretary-general of Buddhist Association of China. In 2002, he became the vice chairman and secretary-general of Buddhist Association of China. In 2004, he became the abbot of Famen Monastery.
