Sheng Hui was born in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:chmetcnv w:st="on" UnitName="in" SourceValue="1951" HasSpace="True" Negative="False" NumberType="1" TCSC="0">1951 in</st1:chmetcnv> <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Xiangtan</st1:City>, <st1:State w:st="on">Hunan</st1:State></st1:place>. He became a monk in 1981 at Qiyuan Monastery of <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Mt.</st1:PlaceType> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Jiuhua</st1:PlaceName> in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Anhui</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Province</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>. In 1982, he received full ordination in Mt. Lu Donglin Monastery, and in 1989, awarded post-graduate degree at the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Chinese</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Buddhist</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Academy</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>. Ven. Sheng Hui served as both Vice President and Dean of the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Chinese</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Buddhist</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Academy</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>.
