Xiamen, China -- On May 23, 2006, Ven. Dahang from Taiwan gave an excellent instruction at Minnan Buddhist Academy in the instruction hall. The theme of instruction is "About Dream".

His instruction started from two dreams. One is his Dharma brother dreamed of all the monasteries in the mountain were on fire, the other is he dreamed of he stands in a magnificent Buddhist hall, but what beneath it is an unfathomable abyss. Ven. Dahang concluded the two dreams with his own practice reflection, he pointed out: No matter how many monastery are, no matter how magnificent hall they possess, will have a day that all these substances will be crumbled away. We must realize that all these is merely appearance, if Buddhists only pay attention to the appearance and neglect the purity and simplicity in its essential nature of Buddhism, they will be abandoned by people at last. So, Ven. Dahang disagreed with Buddhist fight for rights, "The existence of Buddhism can meet your needs" is better. Unless Dharma gets down from its high ivory tower, stepping into people's daily life, using by people, serving to people, the Dharma can be accepted and trusted by all the people.

Ven. Dahang's witty and humorous words provoke listeners' applause every now and then. However, in his light-hearted words, the question is still serious. Ven. Dahang emphasized that the clear goal and serene mind are the principles of practice. When you practice Dharma, you should have correct acknowledge and view, a fit of passion is unreliable, otherwise, you will ruin both your prospect and waste your teachers' effort. You should ask yourself, when I study and practice Dharma, do I acquire the method of keeping my mind calm? As a student of Minnan Buddhist Academy, whether your scores in exam is high or low can¡¯t manifest your quality of your practice. Unless experiencing and aware of the impermanence, seeing through this profound truth, you can free from various desire of the world. On the lonely practice road, no flowers or applause there except Dharma can accompany you walk to the end.

Ven. Dahang was graduated from Taiwan Tunghai University. He investigates Mind-Only School, Tiantai School. He once served as chairman-of-director of Xinzhu Buddhist Association, the eighth president of Xinzhu Buddhist Academy, teacher of the Chung Hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies.
