Dali, China -- Dali, one city of Yunnan Province, invested a huge amount of money to restore the Chongsheng Monastery, making the ancient Buddhist city alive again. And Ven. Shenghui gave a high praise to it.

On Dec 15, 2005, Ven. Shenghui made a special journey to Dali to inspect the in-restoring Chongsheng Monastery. He pointed out that we should make Chongsheng Monastery become a harmonious and friendly site which propagates Dharma and traditional Chinese culture, promoting the union of ethnics, and purifying people's mind. He didn't want to see this site became a troublesome place that some interest groups scramble for power and profit. He pointed out that the Buddhist Association of China disagrees with the conventional practice of "Religious build up the stage, yet actors are businessmen." And now, Dali city and Dali Tour Group decided to hand over Chongsheng Monastery to Buddhist Association, in order to make it become a place which purifying Dali via religious activities and it is a tremendous virtue that the Buddhist tradition in Dali can be restored.

Ven. Shenghui stated that a monastery and Buddhist cultural facility will be merely a tedious skeleton while there weren't any abbot and monks lived in and propagates the compassion and wisdom in Buddhist principles. Therefore, Buddhist monastery should be managed according to Buddhist principles and regulation.  [Translator: Wang Xinyu]
