On 24th April, 2005, the Chinese Buddhists Roundtable Conference with participants from Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao was held in Sanya, Hainan Province. Over 200 venerable masters and elders gathered in Sanya. The Sanya Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was released after the conference.
The Roundtable Conference was presided by Ven. Jiamuyang, vice-chairman of the Buddhist Association of China, and Ven. Shenghui. Ven. Yicheng, chairman of the Buddhist Association of China delivered a keynote address. Amongst those who had presented their speeches were: Ven. Shenghui from Mainland China; Vens. Hsingyun, Sheng Yen, Jingliang, Jing Sin, and Jian Da (on behalf of Ven. Wei Chueh) from Taiwan; Vens. Kok Kwong, Shaogen from Hong Kong; and Mr. Jianzhao from Macau.
